Description

An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States

In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.

In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

Life is a journey with many twists and turns. For all those who live of a life of hatred, it is wasted energy and it does little to improve YOUR LIFE. Michelle has a life and is living her life to the fullest and inspiring others to do the same. Are YOU? The hate you give only comes back to you in some form or measure. Try kindness and compassion towards another and see how YOUR LIFE came be better. After all, we are ambassadors for Christ. Are You?

This was a fascinating book with a behind the scenes look at the life of one of our many First Ladies of the United States. Mrs. Obama provides an intimate account of her journey to The White House. Before reading this book, I never really thought about how much of a sacrifice a President and his family makes when they decide to enter into this office. This book helped me to see the current and past administrations as REAL people (mothers, fathers, grandparents, etc.) They may not share the same political opinion as mine but they are still people none the less. Unfortunately some of these reviews are not really helpful since they seem to be based on the opinion of the Obama Administration and not on the content of the book.

Not too surprised on the unwarranted hatred and vitriol in the reviews section from people who likely did not read the book. This is an excellent and candid reflection of the former FLOTUS on her life and upbringing and she does a fantastic job of weaving how she overcame obstacles in her youth to when she in her political position within the White House. I will likely revisit this book often! I highly recommend the audiobook as it is narrated by her!
